牛血清白蛋白，BSA，又稱為組分V或Cohn V，名稱起源于BSA的分餾法—Cohn冷乙醇法，Cohn冷乙醇法是由哈佛大學(xué)Edwin Cohn教授于1946年發(fā)明的。當(dāng)時基于戰(zhàn)爭創(chuàng)傷治療對注射級別蛋白的大規(guī)模需求，Cohn教授在較低的溫度下改變血漿的乙醇濃度和pH值，使其所含蛋白在不同乙醇濃度下析出，在第五個析出的組分中主要成分為BSA，所以BSA又稱組分V或Cohn V。當(dāng)下，Cohn法仍然是非常普遍的BSA分餾法，最主要的還有熱休克法和色譜層析法。
